The recent U.S. Supreme Court decision to curtail significantly the ability of school districts to integrate by race has shifted attention to a new and growing alternative form of integration based on the socioeconomic status of students. In a report released on June 28, TCF Senior Fellow, Richard D. Kahlenberg examines twelve school systems and finds that when socioeconomic school integration plans are well implemented, they can boost academic achievement and also provide students with a racially integrated schooling environment.
